Testimonials

“We approached Dan when our son became apprehensive about attending school and
increasingly lacked confidence in certain subjects. Struggling with math and reading for some time, our 9-year-old, who has a global development delay, needed help. Dan has been an exceptional tutor for him.

Dan recognises that each child has a unique learning style and needs, customising his sessions accordingly. My son has responded positively to his sessions and looks forward to them, a stark contrast to his feelings about school lessons. Dan’s sessions are creative, dynamic, and perfectly tailored to our son’s learning needs, interests, and motivations. He has significantly improved our son’s confidence and academic abilities in math and reading. Our son eagerly anticipates his sessions with Dan (unlike school lessons), and his school teacher has observed significant progress.

Dan offers a professional and punctual service - always prepared yet flexible enough to adapt to our son’s energy levels and moods. I wholeheartedly recommend Dan as a tutor. His support has been the best intervention for our son, surpassing any school-implemented measures.”

“I cannot recommend Dan highly enough as an 11+ tutor. He instantly made our daughter feel at ease with his fun and friendly approach to tutoring. She thoroughly enjoyed her sessions and often was so looking forward to seeing Dan that she would wait, looking out the window, ready for his arrival! She learnt not only how to approach the entrance exams in terms of the paper, but also had to prepare psychologically, what to do if she found something tough, and how to conduct herself in her interviews. As a result, she received an offer to each of the schools she applied for and can’t wait to join Alleyn’s this September. If you’re looking for a tutor for your child, look no further.”

“I cannot even begin to explain how fun my lessons with Dan have been. I look forward to my weekly maths tutoring. He explains topics so well and my lessons are always so engaging. Dan is such an amazing tutor, and he always finds a fun way to warm up my brain before we begin the maths. I have had such a lovely time with Dan as my tutor. If you want a fun but educational experience, Dan is certainly the best possible choice.”

Lilah (year 6 student, Balham)

“My daughter needed some extra help before her Maths GCSE exams.
Dan’s calm, gentle approach was an excellent fit for my daughter. Dan was able to explain things clearly - concepts that had previously been challenging started to make more sense, which was amazing to see.
Sessions were fun and interactive and my daughter not only enjoyed them, but look forward to them. As a result, she went into both exams feeling better equipped and more confident than she had done previously. I also feel Dan really took the time to get to know her; to understand her and the areas she found difficult and we are so grateful for that . Thank you Dan - I just wish we had found you sooner!”

Sarah (Teddington)

“I am writing to say thank you for your work with our daughter this year. Should you wish to pass my phone number on to anyone who would like a chat, please do so, I would be happy to say how good you have been for her.
To give a little background for others, our daughter, who took her SATS this spring, has slow processing and poor working memory making some things, like the reading of substantive texts to analyse and react difficult and some aspects of both English and maths reasoning the same. Additionally when at her previous school due to pressure put on her by the teachers, (not her current school which has been lovely), she became very unhappy with timers which made time limits in exam situations emotionally difficult.
You came in and struck up a happy working relationship very quickly and she responded very well to you. You worked with her on many levels increasing her confidence and her creative abilities such that SATS were not the hurdle they could have been. Of the five SATS papers there was only one that she felt did not go too well, and with three of them she was quite happy.
We know that you will bring those same qualities to other tutoring positions.”

“Dan has been working with my 9 year old son for about six months, helping him with maths, reading and preparation for 11+ exams. As parents we were very keen that our son did not feel pressured and stressed by exam preparation and tutoring, a philosophy which Dan embraced and assisted with greatly. He also helped our son find motivation and with his ability to focus on one particular task, something he commonly struggles with. Dan is very professional, courteous and sets a great example for our son, with whom he has developed a genuine connection.”

Matt (Balham)

“Dan has tutored our eldest son for just over a year, in preparation for 11+ / Year 6 exams and also secondary school transition. He has been incredibly patient and supportive throughout the entire process. He excels at structuring tutorial sessions that are bespoke for the individual child, drawing on their strengths whilst addressing weaknesses in a manner designed to increase confidence and self esteem. He also assisted with interview practice, which was invaluable in preparing for a completely unfamiliar aspect of the 11+ process. Over the course of the last year we have seen a significant shift in our child’s confidence and ability to tackle the “new and unknown” which will stand him in good stead for the start of secondary school. I would wholeheartedly recommend Dan as a tutor for both in-person and online sessions, covering all aspects of the 11+ syllabus and process.”

Elizabeth (Balham)

“I cannot recommend Dan highly enough as a Maths tutor. Not only does Dan possess a deep understanding of all KS2 and KS3 maths topics, he knows how to make complex topics accessible and engaging. He took a flexible approach with L, tailoring his lessons to leverage her strengths and mitigate her weaknesses. Not only did he help prepare L for success in the 11 + examinations, but he has also ensured that she has a really strong grasp of foundational maths concepts such as algebra and ratios.
Moreover, his warm and affable personality created a supportive learning environment that has boosted my daughter’s confidence in her own capabilities.
Simply put, he makes learning and maths fun, and L looks forward to each lesson.
If you're looking for someone who is not only knowledgeable but also patient and genuinely invested in helping your child succeed and enjoy learning, Dan is the perfect choice!”

Tanya (Clapham Common)

“My son J (8) worked with Dan from autumn 2023 in preparation for the King’s College School, Wimbledon 9+ entrance exam in late 2024.
J had previously not worked with a tutor but Dan immediately put him at ease and J looks forward to the weekly sessions, which cover both Maths and English. Dan makes the sessions fun and relevant, and includes a short sports break halfway through to help J keep his focus for the duration of each session.
He quickly identified areas where J could benefit from additional work, whilst at the same time really boosting his confidence about his overall ability.
Dan has been extremely flexible around changes to sessions when required, especially over holiday periods, and can facilitate remote sessions where necessary. He is always available to answer any queries and give advice.
I strongly feel that J is now more confident and motivated about his entrance exam having worked with Dan, and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend him for any child. I have already recommended him to a year 10 child looking for additional Maths assistance in the lead up to his GCSEs next summer.”

“Our son has been working with Dan since the beginning of year 6 and with his tremendous support and encouragement has successfully navigated the pressures and challenges that the ISEBs and this crucial year brings with it .
As well as the excellent tuition and skills transfer , Dan’s unique style and mix of fun and movement (in our case, a short movement break) has made for happy and hugely beneficial sessions.
I can’t thank him enough!”

Clare (Clapham)

“Dan tutored my 11 year old daughter fully remotely for about 8 months to help grow her confidence in Maths. He has a very gentle style with children yet knows when to give them a boost so that they learn to think for themselves. I have seen a huge improvement in my daughters grades since the tutoring session. Needless to say I am very grateful for his support this year!”

Anne-Laure (Kingston)

“Tutoring with Dan was super helpful. At the start, we did quizzes so he could see what I needed to improve on. Then when we went deeper in the tutoring session, he was able to help me in the areas of maths that I needed the most improvement on. He was always giving me great tips and methods, so after a few weeks, I began to feel so much more confident about my SATs”
